His Excellency Mr. Southorn.

We are on our way to Shanghai by way of Hong Kong.

We intended to pay our respects to you on arrival but were obliged to change our plans and come to Hong Kong by special

train, arriving at Kowloon at 4 o'clock this morning and as our ship leaves at 6 we are unable to carry out our intention.

Please accept our regrets and our thanks for the

escort you provided for us. We have asked our friend Dr.

To Yang Kwan to hand you this respectful letter and to convey to you our thanks.

We hope to pay you a visit when opportunity offers

at some future time.

With regards,

Jong Shui Ming (i.e. Wong

Tsing Jai).

Lei Tsai Sham.
